We started Propel after seeing firsthand how much engineering momentum is lost to slow reviews, tribal knowledge, and avoidable mistakes. Traditional code review tools lacked true intelligence, and “AI assistants” felt more like autocomplete on steroids than real teammates. Having worked at companies like Rippling, Twitter, Visa, and Goldman Sachs, we witnessed how engineering teams struggled with inconsistent review quality, knowledge silos, and the constant tension between shipping fast and maintaining quality.

The idea for Propel was born from countless hours spent in code reviews that felt more like bureaucracy than collaboration.

As engineers at high-growth companies, we watched talented developers spend entire afternoons reviewing trivial style issues while critical architectural decisions slipped through unnoticed.  We saw junior developers struggling without proper mentorship, senior engineers burning out from repetitive review tasks, and entire teams blocked waiting for feedback. The existing tools either provided shallow automated checks or required extensive manual configuration that never quite matched our team’s evolving needs.
